Gosh, this season has been an absolute whirlwind since we started. We began with a program led by John Williams including selections of his music for the movies, then followed it up with our Live from Lincoln Center program, featuring the music of Dvorak (Carnival Ov., Cello Concerto, and Seventh Symphony).
Then it was right into Tchaikovsky, with the Second Symphony and Piano Concerto, followed by performances of the First Symphony and Manfred (in the same week), then the Third and Fourth Symphonies (once again, in the same week), and now the Fifth and Sixth Symphonies, and Swan Lake selections (yes, once again in the same week). The really neat thing about it all is that though I am familiar with much of this music from the first trombone parts, the third trombone parts are completely different, making entrances more challenging (I’m used to hearing Mr. Harwood play the third trombone passages!) and from a completely different point of view.
However, at the end of this week, there is a bit of a rest, in that we return to our one program per week typical form. Except for Young Persons Concerts.
We’ve had one day of trumpet auditions (semi-finals for our second trumpet opening), and it’s nice to be back on the committee side of the screen, especially considering that my last audition experience was for my current position! It’s far more enjoyable (and much less nerve-racking) when you aren’t the one being put on the spot...
Not much more to report now. I will be back with more as I have the urge to write (which, admittedly, as you know by now, doesn’t tend to be terribly often!)...
